Hi Gill!

The main differences were that the Black cover version had loads of cross references, the Green one was a lot more basic. It also had really thin pages that were more like tracing paper. I think the black covered one had better quality pages.

As far as I can remember there wasn't any differences in terms of content.

100mph winds

that'll teach me to eat beans on toast, yesterday!!!.

the wind is really picking up and the town is clearing as everyone is getting sent home from work.. we're expecting 100mph gusts here, on the west coast of scotland.. i'm gonna go home and get cosy, with a roaring coal fire.

it's just as well our houses are built for severe weather!.

A report just came in on the news that several died.
I'm not sure about the details of that...

Yup - I saw it on the news tonight - a family of 5 killed when they were making their way from Benbecula to Uist via the causeway. A huge wave came up and washed their car into the water. They were on their way to a friends home because they thought they would be safer. Grandparents, parents and kids. Really heart rending.

Events of the last week really illustrate how insignificant we are against the phenomenal power of Nature.

Glad things are better LT - unfortunately sometimes there can be a downside to living in such a beautiful part of the world.

I nipped out to get some more coal, today

That brings back memories - we had a coal fire when I was very young and you can't beat it for atmosphere and heat on a dark Winter night. The only drawback was that my parents always argued about who had to bring the coal in when the weather was bad! Not much fun filling a big pail of the stuff with the rain coming down down in torrents! How I laughed.....

The weather has been terrible further South as well. Not much damage in my neck of the woods, but I thought I should work at home today just in case.

We are also having heavy hail showers and lightening which is a pain but no structural damage or injuries. LT's area is one of the worst affected, and the most Southerly areas. Here in the middle it hasn't been as bad.

LT - I can send you a crate of Pot Noodles to keep you going - in case the weather doesn't improve!

Being pressured to be baptised at 15 was one of the main reasons I had to jump ship. I couldn't bear the thought of no turning back after that, so in a way it was actually a blessing in disguise as I had to make a definite decision.

Gill - have you had a browse through any of the Open University stuff? I don't know the location of the nearest college/university to you, but what I do know is that many of these institutions provide a much more flexible range of courses than was traditionally available.
In my institution people can sign up for one or two modules to try themselves out and add more to count towards a qualification - would be worth checking out. It's never too late to start.

I distinctly recall being 'out in the work' one Friday night (we didn't do Saturdays for some reason, was always Friday nights and Sunday afternoons, but I digress), aged about 10 years old.

That night I had the good fortune to be paired with Sister 'Overzealous to the point of insanity' and we duly began our door knocking, her with a spring in her step and me dragging along behind. So far so good, until we reached one house where the occupant, a man built like an outside toilet, had clearly been partaking of the best part of a distillery for most of the day - and he wasn't a happy drunk either. He had a high level of aggression and I was pretty scared.

So what would the normal person do? - well, a simple, 'no problem I see you are busy' and then hightail it away down the path. Well, guess again, Sister OZPI decides to engage in a discussion about all the usual stuff, despite the fact this guy is both irrational and twice the size of us. I thought - any minute now he's going to ask us in, and sure enough that's what happened. My response to this was to turn on my heel and leave, and therefore forcing Sister OZPI to back track. She did however point out that I had prevented this man from hearing Jehoober's word and may have cost him his chance of everlasting life in the paradise earth.
I'm not a parent, but I would quite gladly wring the neck of anyone who put a child of mine in that situation.

What it makes me realise now is that JWs seem to think Jehoober provides them with an invisible shield that protects them from all kinds of danger. He will save them and sort their lives/problems out for them, thus abdicating them from taking responsibility for their own lives.

You think too much...!

discussing jw doctrine with my parents this week, ..sigh!...i was told by my mother that i think too much and that i should just have faith in the governing body, because it 'is a progressive organization'....sigh!...what can you say?

i told her that the wtbts was just a business and unfortunately she was in a cult and 'brainwashed'.

at this she screeched, 'me!

Trust your gut. There are many here who say that older parents who are deep in the organization should not have the lies exposed to them. But I and some others here feel that even if they are older with years of service, in many cases they still deserve to know the truth.

Absolutely - different situations and people require different tactics. Gill, you are the only one on here who can judge how much info your parents can take. In my case the above doesn't apply, but that's judged by my knowledge of my parent.

It's just like a lot of things in life - no clear cut right and wrong answer.
